The Element Project

History of Krypton
Krypton was discovered in Britain by Sir William Ramsay a Scottish chemist, in residue left from evaporating nearly all components of liquid air. On the 30th of May in 1898, the experiment took place. William Ramsay was awarded the 1904 Nobel Peace Prize in Chemistry for discovering a series of Noble Gases, including Krypton. Krypton-86 was used to measure a meter from 1960 to 1983. It was discovered that Krypton is almost three times heavier than air and at extremely low temperatures can also exist as a liquid and a solid.
